Certified companies are registered businesses which have pledged to conduct their business honestly, observing the IICRC Code of Ethics, continuing staff training / education and are fully insured.
Complete restoration of saturated carpet will normally take between 2 – 4 working days providing the drying equipment is operating 24 hours per day. If structural drying is required this will prolong the drying duration.
If flooding has occurred this will increase the amount of time necessary to complete the restoration process. Please keep in mind during floods that the work will be scheduled dependent upon level of water damage, access of electricity and water and prevailing conditions.
The carpet will smell if it has not been totally dried or underlay has not been replaced. Once underlay has been wet, it must be replaced (excluding cotton felt or rubber underlay). This is due to the fact that it is organic and deteriorates when wet. Furthermore, it will hold an odour since it cannot be cleaned. Once your carpet is completely dry, new underlay will be installed of comparable size, weight and quality.
Carpet backing will have a tendency to tighten up when subject to water depending on the type of backing material, the amount of water and the length of time it stays wet. If dried properly and relayed, the backing can be stretched to its original size. Occasionally it may take a return visit after the backing has relaxed.
It is MCS standard practice to have all electrical equipment tested and tagged every six months plus all equipment has an earth plug for further safety. This equipment is designed to operate continuously which means the restoration time will be kept to a minimum in order to prevent permanent damage.
If we ascertain at our initial attendance that the carpet cannot be restored we will uplift and remove the carpet / underlay immediately including smoothedge from all doorways for safety reasons. We will leave you a sample of the carpet showing why the carpet cannot be restored, place this in a plastic bag and keep it for the assessor to review. This practice will minimize drying time, ensure mould does not have a chance to germinate and will keep the cost of restoration to a minimum.
If during the drying process we determine the carpet cannot be restored (e.g. delamination – backing comes away from the carpet) will we dry the carpet and leave it loose laid until new carpet can be sourced and installed. If any OH&S issues exist with this practice, MCS will re-engage the carpet as best possible.
When Moisture Control Services is in attendance on site, please be aware of vacuum hoses and power leads as they do represent a tripping hazard. While the technicians are using the vacuum hoses, please ensure children are away from the affected area, any work in progress and are under your close supervision. In the event that drying equipment is left on site, please leave it turned on (turning it off will prolong the drying process and increase costs). As a further safety measure, where practical please avoid the affected areas.
MCS requires the name of your insurance company, name of policy holder, policy number, claim number and collection of excess. With this we will directly invoice your insurance company and submit report of incident which will greatly aid the restoration process if other services are required. MCS has direct contacts for all the major insurance companies.
For your information maximum electrical consumption of drying equipment is listed below: To dry carpet with underlay, select the Sahara turbo dryer. The Sahara has a 3 speed control where the electrical consumption is based upon maximum load where in reality MCS normally operates at speed 3 (slowest). Based upon this the normal consumption would then be equal to the Santana which draws 2.5 amps.
